- Gregg (greggw@brewingnews.com) reports: This
comfortable brewpub, best reached from downtown Vancouver by the city's Seabus ferry service,
offers a beautiful view of the skyline of Vancouver across the harbor, an excellent kitchen, and,
generally, 6 to 8 well done cask-conditioned ales. Toss in the current value of the U.S. greenback
vs. the Canadian loonie and it's my choice as the best place to drink beer in Canada.

I sampled "Summer Wheat Ale."
It is the best Wheat I have had or made. Very flowery
and crisp. The bottle says it was made in a small batch
at thier pilot brewery with extremely limited availability.

- Matt Walker (matt@suckerfish.net) reports: Definitely check out Steamworks Brew Pub.
My girlfriend and I were in Vancouver over the summer and were looking
for a good brewpub to stop in for dinner and some good house brew. We
passed Steamworks and considered going in but due to their proximity
to Gastown -- one of the main tourist drags in Vancouver -- as well as
the giant garish sign out front, we nearly passed them by. We assumed
that they were just another bland, watered-down, trendy brewpub. But
then it started to rain so we said "screw it" and ducked in. I'm glad
we did because we had some of the best beer (and food) that we had on
our vacation (which also took us through Washington and Oregon). We
drank their Sour Cherry Belgian Ale, Wit, Porter, and IPA, all of
which were excellent (although their Wit was a little unbalanced). We
also had a great dinner. My girlfriend was served the largest piece of
Ahi Tuna that I have ever seen. I'm glad we took a chance on Steamworks.

- Gregg (greggw@brewingnews.com) reports: Sorry, Mr.
Beaumont, I know how much you love your native Montreal and its beers -- and Unibroue makes several
of my favorites, too -- but if I'm not considering production breweries I'd say the best brewpubs in
the Great White North are found on the Pacific coast. Both this and my other Canadian selection are
each literally within yards (er, I guess I'd better say meters since it's Canada) of the water.
Check into a room at Spinnaker's B&B then sit upstairs in the bar, look down the hillside overlooking
the harbor full of sailboats and seaplanes with a pint of one of the several magnificent beers they
make here and some of the equally magnificent Pacific Northwest seafood from the kitchen, and you wonder if there's any way you can apply for political asylum
as a victim of Anheuser Busch, Miller and Coors.

- Chuck Sheldon, (skitime3@cs.com) reports:Black's is located
just off the blackcomb gondola. It is upstairs and the view of the base runs is lovely. The place was
packed when we were there and the locals were very friendly. Serving nine local micros on tap and
99% beers in bottle, Blacks has become a great local hangout and for good reason. While chatting
with the girl next to us, we found that Kim was a regular and hooked us up with The Best choices
on the menu. Robbie the bartender never let our pints hit bottom and Jeff (the manager) was right
there as well assuring that everything was just right! Try the pizza selections- Wendy had the
Hawaiian and I tried the Meat Lovers (we could have easily shared one!)
When it comes to absorbing some of the local flavor, it does not get ant better than this!!
When we return, we will definitely stop in for a pint or two) Rating 1-10 (10)
- (BP)The Brew House 4200 Mountain Square (604) 905-2739
- Chuck Sheldon, (skitime3@cs.com) reports: Located on the far end of the village in relation to the gondolas, the Brew House
is still less than 5 minute walk from anywhere in the village) is a must for anyone traveling to
the area. The building has a distinguished clock tower and is designed in the classic "big log"
motif of the village. They had 6 micros on tap when we were there, and all brewed on site.
Franks Nut Brown Ale was smooth with a rich blend of three different malts and import hops
(and Wendys pick of the day!!) The Dirty Minor Stout was hefty and redolent with the flavors
of roast barley. Loaded with three different types of hops: Galena, Perle and Cascade. Comes in
@ 5.8% alc. and definitely worth a try- The Big Wolf Bitter was jam-packed with Chinook hops and
very tasty. The Twin Peaks Pale Ale has a hint of Crystal Malt and an aromatic blend of Cluster,
Willamette and B.C. Kent Hops- (and my pick of the day!) They also have the Northern Light Lager
(worthy of a pint) and the Lifty Lager- an All malt mash/non filtered brew. Peter Kishtosh is
the current brew master and does agreat job. Rating 1-10 (9)
- (P)The Long Horn Pub 4284 Mountain Square (604) 932-5999
- Chuck Sheldon, (skitime3@cs.com) reports: located in
Whistler village at the base of the Whistler and Backcomb gondola's. This place rock's! This is "the place"
to stop for aprs skiing- just step out of your bindings and walk 20 feet to the walk-up bar! A
friendly bartender will be glad to serve you one of the many local micros that they carry. They
also cover a complete well selection too. There food is great for a ski-up bar with hefty portions
of everything. The burnt onion soup is awesome! The people were all friendly and the atmosphere is
perfect for unwinding after a killer day on the slopes..:) For us it only got better as we only
had to walk about 40 yards to our hotel. The village rules!!!!
