Great beers with always something eccentric around (Jack seems to like to brew with lemongrass, among others, won 2 GABF golds this year for his lemongrass beers). Usually has a bunch of high quality guest micros around (a recent yearly tradition has been stout month where ALL guest beers are stouts, yum). Good but simple food menu.

All the beers in our sampler set were over-carbonated and not anywhere near true to the styles indicated by the names. With Phantom Canyon located essentially kitty-corner from them, JB's may soon have only the people who wander in from the hotel lobby to keep them going at the current rate.

  Located downtown, this fine brewpub offers a wheat, IPA, Red, Stout, Pale Ale, and a rotating special, as well as their home-brewed Root Beer. Located in an old rail-road office building, this is a really good place to spend some time in Colorado Springs.

The peated porter doesn't have the fullness and flavor it once did, though it is still good. The hefeweizen came with such a huge chunk of lemon squeezed into it that the beer couldn't be tasted, and didn't even come across as a Bavarian Radler. Our waitron cheerfully replaced it with a hefeweizen ohne lemon, and it just doesn't match up to a real hefeweizen...or even Bert Grant's. Still, it's a great place and better than most...except il Vicino, just around the corner.

This local hangout, is full of eye-catching memorabilia, including a wall size mural that included a mermaid, whale and a flying saucer·get the idea? After we sat, we were greeted with a smile. Let the tasters commence I said, and with that beers were flying. We ordered our meal and began tasting away!! The Strawberry Brew was light and refreshing- a malt body with no hops to speak of. The Pale Ale was smooth, not holding that overly hoppy taste that so many microsâ have. The Crystal Wheat was crisp and clean and (Wendyâs pick of the day!!). When in the area, trying a Sampler is a must, as their seasonals are always changing. The food selection is large and the VERY TASTY!! We tried the Lasagna, Fish N Chips and the 18 OZ. T-Bone. All were excellent! Ruduy Baaeumer is the owner, and strives to follow the tradition of his European roots. He has done a fine job and should be proud!! Very large bar with a maple top- They have an extensive food menu and they pride themselves in specializing in Elk! They have around 20 brews on tap at any given time though they rotate continually. Some of the brews that we tried were the Red Lady Ale, the White Buffalo Peace Ale, the New World Pale Ale (an IPA and very tasty) the Wild Flower Wheat (Wendy's favorite) the Rodeo Stout (an oatmeal stout with a creamy head) an ESB (an English style Bitter, though not my cup of tea) and Paradise Peak (a lighter "golden ale") that they are currently bottling. They also offer Barley Wine that packs a punch @9.4%alc. The staff was great and Randy and Joe Garcia (the owners) were very helpful! Rating 1-10 (9)

  Really great beer lover's bar right by Coors field. 60 odd taps, and they all stick to the bars' motto "No Crap on Tap." Not much crap in bottles either, with one of the finest selections of Belgian bottles I've seen in any bar. Many classics on tap, with a justifiable concentration of Colorado beers, some available on cask-drawn taps. If you go to one bar in Denver, this should be it.

They have a suite of regular beers that you see in every brewpub and usually one or two really strange ones. I had an exceptional wheat stout there once. Never had anything like it before or since.

The brewery is owned by Coors the pub operated by ARAMARK (formerly ARA of bad cafeteria fame) of all people, but if you tasted the beer you wouldn't know that. Go visit and see what a big brewer can do if they put their mind to it. Brewer is formerly from Hubcap in Vail.

  Jeff Benjamin (benji@fc.hp.com) reports:For those who don't know, the Sandlot is in a building connected to the stadium. It's owned by Coors, but is independent as far as brewing goes, with its own brewmaster and brewers. The ballpark is incredible -- great views, great atmosphere; a joy to look at and be in. Our seats were right across the concourse from the brewpub, and you can get a beer inside and take it back to your seat.
  The brewing facilities are gorgeous, as you might expect of a brewpub with that much capital behind it. The equipment is all built by NSI: beautiful copper mash tuns and boilers, and fermenting vessels jacketed with copper as well. They were brewing on game day; everything is easily viewable from the pub.
  In the pub itself, they were serving three beers: Rockpile Ale, Squeeze Play Wheat, and Power Alley ESB. Outside at a stand on the concourse, they had Pinstripe Pale Ale and Right Field Red. (Note the baseball theme for the names -- how clever :-). I started off with a Rockpile Ale. It was a dark amber/red color, had a very slight malty-sweet aroma, nice lingering bitterness, no hop flavor or aroma and no ale-ish esters. It tasted like a lager. I thought I might have accidentally been served a Killians Red (they were very busy), but no, a second try confirmed that it really was the Rockpile. Next up, the Squeeze Play Wheat. It was an amber/red color, just lighter than the Rockpile. Again, no hop flavor or aroma, some bitterness but some unpleasant astringency too. There was a bit of wheaty fruitiness in the aroma, but no other ale-ish esters... until it warmed up. Then I got hit in the face with very heavy diacetyl; buttery to a flaw. So how about the Power Alley ESB, where diacetyl is a little more acceptable? It was there again in spades, still too much for style. The ESB also had a slight DMS/corn flavor, although there's the possibility they actually did use some corn. And it was amber/red, almost the same color as the other two, with a lingering finish but no hop flavor or aroma. I didn't get to try the Pinstrip Pale Ale or Right Field Red as they ran out of beer by the bottom of the sixth.
  To sum up, the Sandlot was disappointing, but given the different market they're going for, perhaps not unexpected. Most Sandlot patrons, at least on game day, are of the Joe Six-pack school. Even so, the sameness and lack of character of the brews was inexcusable.

  The best brewpub I went to in CO, this brewery offers wheat, pale ale, red, stout, brown ale, IPA, and ESB, as well as a couple of rotating specials, and cider and rootbeer. Also has good food, and a selection of around 25 single malt scotch varieties. I hear they've now converted the upper floors of the building into loft apartments.

They also had two micro's from other local breweries. The brews that are always on tap include Minor'sGold (their lightest brew) made with local honey from the Animas valley and hanging on the malty side, Old Oak Amber Ale, balanced with a healthy hop bitterness and aged on oak chips for a smooth flavor(and my pick of the day!). Colorado Trail Nut Brown Ale, a malty flavor and a nutty palate, with more hop balance than English browns (and Wendy's pick), Iron Horse Stout, a rich body with strong coffee overtones. Carvers Bitter, brewed in the traditional English method of fermenting ales in firkins, hand-pulled though an English beer engine and served at cellar temperature of 52F (a must try) a Scotch Ale that will grab you and shake you around and more...Food was great and a wide selection as well! Wendy had the eggplant parmesan (delicious..:) and the specials are good too. Eileen was very friendly and helpful and knows her brews! Chris Tough is the brew master and has excelled at brewing some quality micro's. Rating 1-10 (9)

  Brews an assortment of beers, ranging from a fruit wheat all the way up to a barleywine (seasonally). Pale Ale the best in my experience, Porter is pretty good, as is stout, though both could use some more heft. Brew an amber along the lines of Fat Tire as well. Worth a visit.
  

  Charles Sheldon, (skitime3 @cs.com) reports:Tucked away from the main street that is Estes Park, Estes Park Brewery is great for grabbing a bite and a brew after an outing in Rocky Mtn. National Park. The ambiance is that of a "no fluff" type brewery. Downstairs, there is a "free tasting area" where you can sample the entire brewery has to offer. Stinger, wheat ale made from pure Colorado clover honey at 7522 ft. was one of the better brews on tap coming @6% alc. You can actually taste the honey.worth a try. Estes Park renegade was a 1993 Gold Medal winner @6% alc., (and my pick of the day!) The raspberry Wheat Ale was sweet with a hanging aftertaste of a berry beer only found in the likes of Oregon, (and Wendyâs pick of the day!!). Others include the trail Ridge Red , Staggering Elk organic lager, Estes park porter and who can forget the barley wine @11% alc. Upstairs you will find the dining area which serves your usual pub fare, though $ for $, the portions are huge!! For those under the legal age, the fresh breweed Cream soda is a must!! If you have the chance, say hi to Tyler. He really went the extra step to take care of us. The brew master is Eric Bratrud, and has put out some fine products. Rating 1-10 (8)

Named after a famous nearby creek, Left Hand Brewery is a pretty basic ale brewery in a small old building in an industrial part of town (Longmont, Colorado). It was originally a 2-man operation, but I think they've hired a couple of guys to help with the grunge work.

  Their big seller is called Sawtooth Ale, which is a very nice (award winning) copper-amber bitter. They also has a golden ale which is heavy with diacetyl and pretty sweet; different from the refreshing goldens I've had elsewhere. This is by design though, as he didn't want to "follow the crowd". They also offers a Ginger Ale which is unique and very well done. A porter is being brewed as well.

  Nice brewpub in a small town. Restaurant upstairs, bar downstairs. Both serve the beer, featuring a crisply brewed Pilsner, a pleasantly hoppy Pale Ale, a sweet brown, a mellow, more English style Porter and a fairly mild stout that would likely be styled a Porter but for the roasted barley. Good food and live blues on a regular basis (almost nightly, but every weekend for sure).

  Chuck Sheldon, (skitime3@cs.com) reports:Situated in the heart of downtown Pueblo is a little brick building with the "flavor of Ireland" PACKED inside! Located two blocks off of I-25 and the 4th st. exit, this establishment is easy to find. The bar seats 20 and there is an adjoining dining room which overlooks the vats. There is also a patio out back used in the summer months. There were 7 brews on tap and they rotate in seasonals as well. All the brews we tried were delicious..:) The 3rd Street Wheat is light in color and flavor with no bitterness. Finish is wet with a dry aftertaste and "Wendy's favorite". The Steel City Light Ale is a cream ale that is mild/light bodied and very crisp. The Lucky Leprechaun Gold Ale is brewed w/2-row domestic malted barley and the finest imported German hops- This brew can definitely stand on one leg! The Blarney Stone Irish Red Ale uses 2-row Crystal and Munich malts...very tasty and "my pick of the day"! The Blackthorne Brown Ale is dark and sweet with a smooth aftertaste. The! Dog Mahon Porter has an appearance of deep mahogany with a taste of caramel and butter-scotch, and the Pueblo Chile beer is not to be missed...flavored with roasted Pueblo chili. They have an extensive food menu covering lunch/dinner. Tried the Irish style Reuben, Awesome! The Philly Cheese Steak sandwich is great as well. Ted Calatino is the owner/brewmaster-overseer. Since 1996 Ted has been pumping-out quality microbrews. If you get the chance to visit with him as we did, you will find a man dedicated to the pursuit of quality and customer satisfaction. *Has -Growlers Rating 1-10 (10)

  Mitch Mather (mxmathe@lookout.ecte.uswc.uswest.com) reports: Good beer, good food. This is the same folks as Il Vicino (Albq, NM). They have some good Italian food here and their beers are very nice. The pale ale is my favorite (it won a GABF medal after I was there).
  Ohmono (dstrother@pop.dn.net) reports: Another one of those **** places which merits the trip. They are now serving _two_ GABF prizewinners, and all the beers in our sampler set were outstanding, true to their styles. The pizzas are made in a wood-fired oven, and many are inventive vegetarian delights that could win over meat-eaters. Great ambiance and friendly service.

  Rob Cuthbertson reports:This brewpub offers much better than the usual "pub fare" offered by so many micros. Situated in a resort town, it would do well as a restaurant alone. The food and service are top-notch. In addition, the brewers are very friendly, and their beers are wonderful. It's been a while since I was there, so I can't recall all of their offerings, but I particularly enjoyed the porter and the wheat beer. Bring some extra cash and take home a growler -- but don't expect it to hold carbonation for more than a day or two. (not to worry -- you'll drink it long before it has a chance to go flat. :)

Located two blocks from the gondola, on the corner of SanJuan and Pine this place is easy to find...The bar is long and is made from one piece of wood carved from a local Douglas Fir tree! The owners are very proud and should be. David Ayers is the current brewmaster and does a great job- There are seven brews on tap including Wildcat Wheat, Shred Betty Raspberry Wheat (Wendy's favorite), Strong Scottish Ale, Roadrash Red, KnuckleDragger Pale Ale (my pick of the day), Two Planker Porter and their Barley Wine (a must try) cranking out 12.3%alc.!!!! We caught the chicken sandwich and it was delicious... They also have Growlers* Rating 1-10 (9)
