- Kevin Photiades (KPHOTIADES@longburner.com) reports: Supposedly the
"first Maine brewpub." Carried an abbreviated line at the time I visited:
Bitter, Stout, Pale Ale, Light Ale, and "Best Brown Ale" (www.grittys.com)
Located in one of the numerous older downtown buildings in Portland near the
edge of the water, it had that old-time English feel to it. Wish I could
say more for the beer. I sampled the Stout, which was roasted malt
overkill, and the "Best Brown Ale," which should be ashamed of itself.
Flat, lackluster taste, it was more akin to a root beer without any sugar.

Kevin Photiades (KPHOTIADES@longburner.com) reports: Carried what I
consider a "full line" of beers: Blonde, Brown Ale, IPA, Porter, Stout,
Wheat, Root Beer and a million seasonal beers, all of which are listed at
www.seadogbrewing.com Sampled the Wheat and the Hazlenut Porter. The Wheat
was very clean and smooth, but the Hazlenut Porter was a standout, one of
the best I've had. I look at flavored beer similar to food - if one
ingredient overpowers, it's too much. The porter had just the right amount
of hazlenut mixing in with the malt and coffee overtones to create a beer
that went down creamy and super-smooth.
