CRYSTAL BAY
(BP)Lake Tahoe Brewing Co. 24 Stateline Rd. 89402 (75) 831-5822
Name: Chuck Sheldon, (skitime3@cs.com) reports: located 20 ft.
from the California border on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. You can see the "welcome To California"
sign from the front door- With nearly a dozen tables and a 15 seat long bar, this is the place to go
in North lake Tahoe! They had six micro’s on tap when we were there and all were great! The Kolsh was
crisp and light with a grabbing aftertaste. The Hefe-weizen is an unfiltered wheat beer that left a
light aftertaste. Great with lemon and Wendy’s pick of the day..:) The Emerald Bay though hoppy,
had a very sweet aftertaste with a smooth clean finish (and my choice of the day!) The Red Ale has
a full rich body, red tint and was unusually smooth- very nice! The Nut Brown was full with a
nutty aftertaste, pleasantly crisp. The Bay Stout had a very robust aftertaste with coffee
overtones- an award winner, and for good reason! They carry appetizers and an extensive pizza
selection. Their Dinner menu covers steaks, ribs, pasta and "pub fare" including Sheppard's pie!
Brats’ and Mash and more…with a family dining area upstairs. Robert Curtis (along with Eric Bledsoe) are the
GE's and tend bar as well. Robert waited to us hand and foot and really knows how to make it happen. Together,
they run a fine establishment! We tried the Hawaiian pizza and it was awesome! Everette Charles is the current
Brew Master and does a great job. When in the North Lake Tahoe area, this is a “must stop” location. We will
return! Rating 1-10, (10)
HENDERSON
(BP)Barley's Casino And Brewing Co 4500 E Sunset Rd
Bob Barnes (LVBob56@gnn.com) reports: The brewer, Mike Ferguson
was formerly the brewmeister at the Gordon Beirch Brewpub in Palo Alto.
The Pilsner is definitely their best, an excellent lager with some hops
that you can actually taste. Very true to style. Their Blue Diamond is a very
light lager without much flavor (I guess it might appeal to the masses). The Red
Rock is an excellent lager with a toasted malty flavor. Very smooth. The Black
Mountain is actually a Bavarian Dark (the bartender mistakenly called it a stout)
and is good but not as flavorful as the Pilsner and Red Rock. The best part of
Barley's is that if you gamble all the beers are free! I guess that's a Las Vegas
fringe benefit. They are actually located in Green Valley which is in the far south
eastern part of Las Vegas.
(P)Crown and Anchor, 1350 E. Tropicana (just east of Maryland Parkway and Tropicana).
Bob Barnes (LVBob56@gnn.com) reports:It is a British pub with over 20
British and Irish drafts. Good beers. Standing room only on weekend nights.
Very much a college crowd. Also several good beers in bottles (again mostly
English and Irish).

- Jeff Wade (jeffpolo@eskimo.com) says:The brewery, opening late 1993, enjoys a site on the LV strip and is
the first brewery to become established in Vegas! This brewery can be my
version of heaven if it likes.... 24 hour beer, slots, great food, and
$2.75 pints! Holy Cow brewery offers the Pale Ale, Heffe, Stout, Amber Ale, IPA, all the time and serve 3 different seasonals at a time
- Pale ale: Amber color, malty fullness, fruity overtones.(Gold: english
pale category GABF)
- Wheat Beer: Traditional in style, refreshing!
- Red Ale: Reddish copper hue, smooth maltiness(my favorite!)
- Rasp W: Delightfully Malty, with an array of Raspberry flavors.
Reinheitsgebot in strict adherence.
- Jack Tribble (jtribble@ix.netcom.com) reports: The beer is usually good but I have
tasted some inconsistancies and old brew. The red ale is generaly an excellant beer,
every time. This past year Holy Cow Brewery went all out on a Christmas Winter beer
that was wonderful.
- (BP)Main Street Station / Triple 7 Brewpub 200 N Main St
- Bob Barnes (LVBob56@gnn.com) reports:an outstanding brewpub, won a silver at 1997 GABF for their Black Cherry Stout.
They serve 4 standards-Light Lager, Pale Ale, Porter and a seasonal.
Brewer Eddie Kuehne is a great guy who loves receiving bottles of homebrew.
- Scott Baker (sb1ohol@moa.net) reports:
I am a Pale ale drinker and have been to many brewpubs.
The Triple Seven pale ale is outstanding. And my wife
swears by the light german beer called Highroller.
I'm wondering if the fact that this beer is free while
I play blackjack is clouding my judgement...
- (BP)The Monte Carlo Brewery - 3770 S. Las Vegas Blvd.
- Bob Barnes (LVBob56@gnn.com) reports: They are located on the Las Vegas
strip across the street and down a little from the MGM Grand. They have 6 different
beers on tap: a light ale, an IPA, a Heffeweizen, a blackberry wheat (sounds yummy),
a pale ale, and a stout.
- Jack Tribble (jtribble@ix.netcom.com) reports: The beer is excellent, Head Brewer Erik Steiner
(formorly of Tremont Brewing Company, Boston) is making a
name for himself with his craft. The "jackpot pale" is an excellent
IPA that should impress most. The "Winners Wheat" is good and very fresh.
I look forward to trying more from this new brewery in the future.
- SnWmodel29@aol.com reports: I drank three schooners of the stout and it was very tasty.
It was nice and toasty with just the right amount of bitterness.
Very refreshing and extremely addicting.

Chuck Sheldon, (skitime3@cs.com) reports: This establishment is a cross between a "high class" sports bar and "live music"
establishment. The bar itself is very large with lots of brass and oak, and chandeliers to add to the ambiance. You can see a sports game from virtually ant
vantage point- great when enjoying their fare. They had eight micro’s on tap and most were exceptional. The Big Dog Ale was their highest gravity product.
Deep copper in color, it is full bodied, strong and rich with a light aftertaste. The Gold Dollar Pale Ale is a full-bodied, American-stylr pale Ale.
It's dry and crisp with distinct hop flavor, follwed with citrus and tropical overtones. The Wild Card Wheat Ale is a Bavarian-style unfiltered wheat beer of
the hefe-weizen family and Wendy's pick of the day! The Lucky Lady Lager is brewed using traditional cold fermentation and Swiss Lager yeast. The Extra
pale Honey Ale is a light, clean ale brewed with orange blossom honey. The Redhead Amber ale is named after the redhead duck. A rich, red, and smooth ale,
though somewhat hoppy for me. The Double Down Stout was thin on the body, almost watery- The food selection is very diverse, from soups and salads to
sandwiches and steaks. We tried the Chicken sandwich and Club- both were enough for two! All in all, a great place to stop when in the downtown Reno area.
