- Eric Van Steenburg (eric_van_steenburg@mccom.com) reports: A hard-to-find place in a shopping mall on the southeast side of Salt Lake City, but worth the investigative efforts. They were serving six beers when I was there, including a holiday beer named Kriss Kringle's Dunkel Weizen. The other five were Desert Edge Hefeweizen, Pub Pils, Utah Pale Ale (U.P.A.), Fusion City Amber and Latter Days Stout. Desert Edge had the best price on growlers to go among all the city's brew pubs.
Fusion City Amber -- A fantastic amber ale with a strong malt flavor and a nut flavor finish. A real winner.
Kriss Kringle's Dunkel Weizen -- A smooth dark wheat with a non-discript moca flavor but strong wheat characteristics. More chocolate malt would have improved this offering.
Latter Days Stout -- The church I'd recommend everyone join. This creamy stout is almost a Guinness clone, just not quite as smooth as the Irish beer (but what is?). The Latter Days Stout was thick and black and had great head retention because Desert Edge serves it "on Nitrogen" for a creamier head. An outstanding beer.
- (BP) Red Rock Brweing Co 254 S 200 West 521-7446
- Eric Van Steenburg (eric_van_steenburg@mccom.com) reports: They have 12 beers on tap and I was able to sample four of them (no, I didn't order four pints for myself in one sitting, though the temptation is always there). It appears to be a trendy place with the college-age and 25-35 year old crowd. Lot's of places to sit, but the bar stools are hard. Great atmosphere with a brick oven right in the middle.
K.B. Porter -- A tad more bitter than most porters I've tasted, but it was quite smooth and had a great outer hugh that made it an attractive brew.
Oatmeal Stout The standard stout with good consistency and head retention (though not of the Guinness standard).
Amber Ale -- A wonderful-looking dark red beer with a strong aftertaste that made it say "ale."
Honey wheat -- An average wheat beer that improved as it moved through your mouth, leaving a nice sweet honey taste at the end. Not nearly as smooth at the beginning, though.
- Chuck Sheldon, (skitime3@cs.com) reports: Food was awesome!
The cobb salad is huge, two can actually split it when accompanied by their french onion soup (not to
be missed). The chicken parmasian was also very tasty. The pasta with sausage is a healthy portion
as well and the sausage is made locally. The Rasberry Wheat was tasted by all. The consensus was
smooth with a sweet berry after-taste. The oatmeal stout (my wifes favorite) was full bodied and
creamy. The honey wheat had an easy-going medium body with no after-taste to speak of.The heffevizen
was good, though needed lots of lemon. Rating 1-10 (9)

- (BP)Salt Lake B.C./Squatter's Pub Brewery 147 W. Braodway 363-BREW
- From Brian Kenney (kenney@hsi.com):Squatter's has *really* good food as well as several good tasting
brews. They generally offer:
- City Creek Pale Ale
- Emigration Amber Ale
- Millcreek Cream Stout
- Black and Tan
- Brewmaster's Seasonal Ales
- Half Gallon Growlers To Go
- Eric Van Steenburg (eric_van_steenburg@mccom.com) reports: Tried the stout and the amber ale and was not impressed with either. The stout was average but bitter. The amber ale was not memorable at all. Squatters' sister brew pub in the area is called Fuggles, which caters to more of the upscale crowd.
- Chuck Sheldon, (skitime3@cs.com) reports: Definitely one of "the places to go" on a friday night!
Lots of people and the locals were very freindly! The food was good with the pasta dishes really sticking out. The Heffevizen was reported by my wife Wendy to have a smooth light finish. The Emigrant Amber was reported by my brother Rick to be lightly sweet and very good. The Full Suspension Pale Ale (my brother Steve and my favorite) was full bodied and bitter, though had a sweet after-taste...very nice..:) The house Chardoney did not fare so well as it was reported by my sister in-law Terry to be to dry.
- Erika (hockynut@magicnet.net) reports: A pretty place, lots of glass and blond wood, opening to an outdoor,
fenced patio with many (popular) tables. Hefeweizen
and their Honey Wheat were both smooth and flavorful at our table,
while the other table took a
large quantity of stout (fairly sweet). This is a super little pub.
