(BP)Fredericksburg Brewing Co. 245 E. Main St. (78624) 210-997-1646.
This is a brewpub and bed and breakfast (I guess the first and still only in Texas.)
I visited the pub and sample the pale ale, red, blonde, and pilsner. All were decent, but the
Pale Ale was best, having a pleasant hoppiness and not as sweet a character as some of the other beers.
The food was well prepared and reasonably priced.
Stephen Gibbs (stepheng@tenet.edu) says : The FB Co. was established in 1994. The FB Co.
also houses an excellent restaurant and has rooms for rent (around $80-$90.)
The brewery has six brews, serving four at any one time. They are:
- Round Bale Pale Ale
- Jailhouse Bock
- Pedernales Pilsner
- Not So Dumb Blonde Ale
- Edelweiss Wheat
- Enchanted Rock Red
On my most recent research expedition, I tried the last four. Here's my
opinion of each. The pilsner is true to style with a slightly sweet
aftertaste. The blonde ale is light bodied with a fruity aftertaste. The
wheat is an excellent example of the style, wonderful on a hot day. The
red is my favorite; silky smooth, full bodied, and lightly hopped.
As I remember them, both the bock and pale ale were quite good.
The brewery has also brewed a maibock recently. The brews are served
individually at $2.50 a glass or in a four glass sampler for $3.00. You
can also walk out with a glass jug emblazoned with the FB Co. logo and
filled with your favorite beer.
